Built in 1966 under licence by Westland Helicopters. This helicopter served in Sek Kong (Hong Kong) and then spent some time with the British Army Air Corps (AAC) at Middle Wallop in the UK before retiring and ending up at NEAM in Sunderland. It then moved to the South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum. Now based in Chester, the helicopter is now a travelling exhibit and around 75% complete.
Famous for being in the TV series ‘MASH’ The Bell 47 / Sioux AH.1 General Purpose helicopter was also built for the British Army. 50 were built by Agusta (Agusta-Bell 47G-3B1) and 250 built by Westland (Westland-Agusta-Bell 47G-3B1). A small number were also used by 3 Commando Brigade Air Squadron of the Royal Marines.
